I Am Who You Say I Am!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
(Ephesians 1:3)
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.
(1 Peter 2:9)
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, (John 1:12)
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

We began this week by recognising the painful truth that, while their status as God’s children is secure, many Christians simply don’t experience the benefits that is supposed to bring. The reason is that they have not learned to live by faith. In the Bible, faith is a decision to trust that what God says is true and to act accordingly even in the face of doubt and opposition.
The Bible is full of amazing truths about who we are in Christ, just a few of them are listed above. The decision to trust that what God says about us is actually true, is a major faith battleground. Often getting hold of these truths turns out to be the key to breaking free from sinful patterns of behaviour, negative thoughts and timid obedience. If you really believe that you are a child of God, you are much more likely to live like one!
We have learned that faith always involves action; well, speech is an action! Choosing to speak truth out loud and declaring that we believe it, is tremendously powerful in combatting the lies that our enemy the devil whispers into our minds, preaching to our own souls and passing on good news to others.

- As you look at the scriptures above, and call others to mind, are there any that you particularly struggle to believe are true of you right now? Exercise your faith by reading that scripture out loud and declaring that it is true of you. Spend time giving thanks to God for these truths.
- Ask God whether there is a brother or sister who would be encouraged by a reminder that a particular truth applies to them. Decide how you are going to communicate it to them.
- Read 1 Peter 2:9 again. It says that proclaiming the excellencies of Jesus flows out from our identity in Christ. Spend time asking God to help you communicate the wonderful truths about Jesus to your non-believing relatives, friends, colleagues and neighbours as you learn to live by faith.
Dear Father, I thank you for your promises and all the wonderful things that your word says about me now that I am in Christ. I choose to trust that what you say about me is true, whatever I feel. Please help me to keep living by faith every day and proclaiming your excellencies to all around me. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen
