God’s Voice Changes Everything

3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
(Genesis 1:3-5)

God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
(2 Corinthians 4:6)
Most people enjoy making things. But note the difference between making and creating. The Hebrew word that is used to describe God creating the world in Genesis 1 is never used to describe a person making things, because what we do and what God did are very different. The Lord created our whole world out of nothing.

God is so powerful that his voice alone was enough to overcome the darkness on Day One of creation – and this before he created the sun and moon on Day Four! The voice of God carries so much authority that the universe simply snapped to attention and obeyed him. Let there be light – and there was light.

The apostle Paul explains that God does the same thing in our own hearts whenever we read the Bible and believe that is the voice of God speaking truth into our lives. As we reflect this week on the opportunity that God has given us through the events of 2020 to start all over again with him, let’s allow the voice of God to transform us.
1)   Write down two or three verses from the Bible that you believe God wants to speak into your life as you start over with him. What would it look like for those Bible verses to become your daily experience?

2)   Some people find it hard to believe the clear statement in Genesis 1 that the world was created by God rather than evolving by chance. Do you? Which other Bible verses do you find hardest to believe?

3  What damage do you think it does to our lives when we doubt the voice of God? What difference would it make if you believed without question every word that is uttered by the voice of God?
Father God, thank you that I can hear your voice speaking into my heart through the Bible, which is the Word of God. Thank you that you have already spoken ‘Let there be light!’ over me. I already grasp some of your truth. Help me to believe your Word, instead of doubting it, so that I might come to a full knowledge of the truth. Amen.
